Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Today is Ash Wednesday, and we are going to gather for an Ash Wednesday service. However, I urge you to use good judgement to decide if you should travel. We were planning to have two services today, but due to the impending snowstorm with wind, we will have only one service at 4:30 p.m., with those who are able to gather. I will be at the church to lead the service, but I live relatively close to the church building. Many of you live at a greater distance and have to travel hills and winding roads. Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obligation for Lutherans, and you are not sinning against God if dangerous weather keeps you away from church.
Those who are able will gather for worship at 4:30 p.m. If you are not able to travel due to weather, you can still observe Ash Wednesday with prayer and devotion in your own home.
Stay safe and may God bless you as we begin this time of Lent.
Sincerely,
Pastor Scott C. Egbers
