Lighting of the Advent Wreath
Praise Song – Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
Advent Wreath Prayer
We praise you, O God, for this wheel of time that marks our days of preparation for Christ’s advent. As we light the candles on this wreath, open our eyes to see your presence in the lowly ones of this earth. Enlighten us with your grace, that we may sing of your advent among us in the Word made flesh.
Grant this through Christ our Lord, whose coming is certain and whose day draws near. Amen

Light the candles while singing Light One Candle to Watch for Messiah (vs. 1-4)

Sermon

Hymn of the Day #723 – Canticle of the Turning

Prayers:
L: God of power and might, comfort your people and come quickly to this weary world. Hear our prayers for everyone in need.
L: O God, Emmanuel, we pray be with us. Bless our national church and our own congregation. Bless also our neighbors of other denominations and faiths, that strengthened by your presence we may support one another in love and together serve those in need. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
L: O God, King of nations, bring peace and justice to the countries of the world. Lead the nations of the Middle East toward peace with one another and justice for all. We pray especially for people who are oppressed by tyranny and those who live with civil war. Guide our elected leaders toward honest and compassionate policies that serve all the people. Preserve our nation from discord and violence. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
L: O God, Key of David, look with mercy on all who are locked into despair, who fear the darkness, who live brokenhearted. Open windows to those who are isolated. Abide with all who are incarcerated. Give shelter to the homeless and the refugees. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
L: God, we pray for all those among us who are sick or injured, especially for Barb Curry, Doug Walker, Jim Mandicino, and Jim Sorvaag’s sister, Karen, as they face the ordeals of cancer. We also pray for John Berg, John Luebke, Dennis Grohn’s brother, Alan, and Chuck Prior’s sister, Patti Hudson, as they continue to face health issues, Amy Graves for upcoming surgery for a broken leg, and those who have tested positive for COVID. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
L: God, we pray for those who grieve death and loss, especially Micki Benjamin and her family, Kathy Meisner and her family, and Lee Goodwin and family for the loss of his sister, Gayle. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
L: O God, Ruler of might, send your healing power to all in bodily need. Curb the coronavirus and strengthen medical workers. We pray for all those with COVID-19. Guide world health organizations and governmental officials in the distribution of the vaccines, so that they would be safe and effective. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.
L: Draw near to us, O God, and receive our prayers for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
A: Amen.
